AMCATS Score GNAC Win

PAXTON, Mass. – For the second time in less than a week the Anna Maria College men's basketball team defeated visiting Saint Joseph's College (ME) at The Fuller Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. With the 61-54 victory the AMCATS improve to 9-12 on the season but more importantly even there GNAC record to 7-7. The Monks' record drops to 14-6 (10-4 GNAC) on the season.

Leading the way for Anna Maria was senior Anthony Click (Springfield, Mass) with 14 points 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Sophomore forward Quantez "Q" Franklin (South Yarmouth, Mass.) came off the bench and had a game high 11 rebounds, 6 points and two steals for AMC and Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, RI) also reached double digits adding 11 points in the win.

Senior Chris Petzy (Kensington, NH) paced the Monks with 16 points and forward Nichols Jobin (Westbrook, Maine) had the games only double double scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Petzy opened up the game scoring the Monks first five points to give the Monks a 5-2 lead. AMC answered back with a 10-6 run that included a 3 point play by Peterson and a 3 pointer by Corey Pryor to take the lead 12-11 with 11 minutes remaining. The AMCATS would never relinquish the lead.  Anna Maria would outscore St. Joe's 14-9 to end the low scoring first half with a 26-20 lead. Anna Maria held a slight shooting edge 41% to 33% in the first half and out rebounded the Monks 20-11 in the stanza.

With 15:07 remaining in the second half Monks' guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Maine) hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 34-25. AMC responded with baskets by Peterson, Hugh Daye (Worcester, Mass.) and Click to build their biggest lead of the game 45-28 with eight minutes to play. The Monks' once again mounted a comeback but couldn't get closer than the 61-54 final.

The AMCATS return to action on Tuesday night when they host Rivier College in a GNAC match-up starting at 7:30 pm.
