AMCATS Drop Home Opener to Becker, 79-64

PAXTON, Mass. – (11.29.11) Becker College seniors Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) and Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) combined for 48 points and 18 rebounds as the men's basketball team defeated host Anna Maria College 79-64 in non-conference action Tuesday night at Fuller Activities Center. With the win Becker climbs to 1-2 while Anna Maria drops to 0-3.

Junior Anthony Click (Springfield, Mass) led the AMCATS with 17 points (8-for-12), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Senior Brad Peterson turned in a double-double with 13 points and a game high 13 rebounds, while Javier Bristol (Haverhill, Mass.) added 14 points.

Becker's Favors led all players with 27 points on 7-for-9 shooting with 8 rebounds and 4 steals; he was also 10-11 from the free throw line. Leggett finished the night with double-double 21 points and 10 rebounds and junior Moody Doherty had 12 points and 8 rebounds. 

The Hawks took and early 5-0 lead with a three pointer by Favors and a jumper by Leggett. However the AMCATS battled back with jumpers by Peterson and Bristol to tie the game at 5-5 at the 16:40 mark.

Becker answered back with a 10-0 run over the next 4 minutes to quickly make it a 15-5 game.

The AMCATS responded with back-to-back baskets by Javier Bristol to cut the lead to 19-13 with 8 minutes remaining in the half.

Rajai Leggett scored 6 of the next 17 Becker points to lead the Hawks to a 36-24 advantage going into the locker room. Becker held the edge in shooting percentage 42% to 37% in the first half.

Becker continued to press AMC in the second half, with the lead swelling to 20 points at times cruising to the 79-64 win. Anna Maria shot 44% for the game, Becker shot 47%.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Rivier College for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
