AMCATS March Past Cadets 79-46

 

PAXTON, Mass

. (01.10.12) – Senior Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, RI) and junior Anthony Click (Springfield, Mass.) combined for 45 points as the Anna Maria College men's basketball team improved to 4-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action with a convincing 79-46 win over Norwich University at The Fuller Activities Center on Tuesday night. The AMCATS improve to 5-6 (4-1 GNAC) on the season while Norwich drops to 2-8 (1-3 GNAC).

Peterson led the AMCATS with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed 8 rebounds and had 3 blocks. Click finished with 21 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Junior Javier Bristol (Haverhill, Mass.) chipped in with 8 point and 8 rebounds and freshman Hugh Daye (Worcester, Mass.) added 7 points, 4 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in 27 minutes.

Norwich was led by sophomore Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) who had 11 points and Evan Tullar (Chelsea, VT) who had 8 points and 8 rebounds.

The two teams traded blows through the first five minutes of play, battling to a 7-all tie.

Already leading by two with 10 minutes remaining in the half, Anna Maria erupted for a 12-2 run over the next four minutes of play to open up a 12-point advantage at 30-18 with 6 minutes remaining. Click and Bristol combined for 10 of the teams 12 points.

Norwich responded with a small spurt of their own, outscoring AMC 12-6 to cut the lead to 36-30 with two minutes left in the half. An Anthony Click free throw and a Brad Peterson layup increased the lead to nine points sending the AMCATS to the locker room leading, 39-30.

Anna Maria outscored the Cadets 40-16 in the second half to clinch the GNAC win. Anna Maria shot a blistering 52% for the game while the Cadets could only muster 31% from the field. AMC held the advantage in turnovers causing 19 Norwich turnovers in the game and they also held the edge in steals 11-3.

The AMCATS return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Mount Ida College for a 6:00pm tilt with the Mustangs.
