Cadets March to Victory Over AMCATS, 13-5

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Cadets of Norwich University by a final score of 13-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening. The loss drops the AMCATS to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the conference while the Cadets improve to 9-7 and 5-2 in the GNAC.

AMCAT LEADERS

Freshman Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) led the AMCAT offense with three points from two goals and an assist on the night. Kurt Richardon (Narragansett, R.I.), Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.), and John Bartose (Salem, N.H.) all recorded goals in the loss for the home team. Pavoni also notched a team high four ground balls.

Sophomore goaltender, Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y). made 13 saves on the night.

CADET LEADERS

The Norwich offense was led by senior Nick Imbriani who posted four points from three goals and an assist. Nolan Aurelia also notched four points in the victory from two goals and two assists. Junior Zach Adler collected a game high five ground balls and Thomas DeMag won 11 of 15 face-offs for the visitors.

Freshman Brandon Milburn made eight saves in the victory and moves to 3-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cadets scored five unanswered goals in the first period to take an early 5-0 lead. Ian Kennedy extended their lead to 6-0 with 7:08 to play but the AMCATS found a spark with just two minutes to play with back to back goals from Bartose and Richardson (6-2).

Norwich opened up the second period with a goal from Willam Conroy on an assist from Aurelia. Just 10 seconds later the visitors came charging back down the field to notch another goal, this time scored by Imbriani and assisted by Adler (8-2). Pavoni broke up the Cadet's momentum at the 7:27 mark as he took a pass from Hunter LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) and buried it past Milburn to tighten the Cadet lead to five (8-3). In the last six minutes of play the Cadets scored twice to extend their lead to 10-3 to enter the halftime break.

The third period saw the least amount of goals in the game. The Cadets and AMCATS traded goals; one from Imbriani and one from Pavoni would bring the score to 11-4 entering the final period.

Norwich outscored Anna Maria 2-1 in the fourth period. Aurelia and Imbriani wrapped up scoring for the visitors, but Anna Maria's Ryan Rockwal took the final shot of the game with 1:10 on the clock and notched a goal for the AMCATS. The Cadets took the ultimate 13-5 victory over Anna Maria.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Anna Maria travels to Lasell College on Saturday, April 29th for their final game of the season. They take on the Lasers in GNAC action starting at 2:30 p.m. The Cadets wrap up their regular season on the same day when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 1:00 p.m. conference matchup.
