Hawks Soar to Victory over AMCATS

Paxton, Mass.—  The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Hawks of Becker College 11-3 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The loss drops the AMCATS to 2-6 on the season while the Hawks improve to 2-7 overall.

AMCAT LEADERS

Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.) lead Anna Maria in scoring with two goals on the day. Kyle Benning (Puyallup, Wash.) posted two points from a goal and an assist.

Freshman, Tre Demers (Granby, Mass.) won 10 of 16 face-offs while Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) collected a team high seven ground balls.

Sophomore goaltender, Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted 18 saves on the day.

HAWKS LEADERS

Becker was led to victory by senior Daniel Johnson who posted six points from four goals and two assists on the day. Avyay Chaganty followed that lead with four points from three goals and one assists while Blake Boutiette notched four points of his own from two goals and two assists. Nicholas Mariano had a team high four caused turnovers on the day

Trey McMillen had nine saves in goal to lift the Hawks to victory. He is now 2-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Becker opened up scoring for the day with a goal scored by Jack Schneider just 2:30 into play and just one minute later they extended their early lead to 2-0 with a goal by Johnson.

Anna Maria responded with 6:14 to play in the first quarter as Kyle Benning found the top left corner of the net to tighten the Hawk's lead to 2-1. Becker was able to take their two-point lead back before the end of the quarter with a man-up goal by Johnson that was assisted by Chaganty following an AMCAT penalty (3-1)

Anna Maria kept the game close with a man-down goal from Rockwal that was assisted by Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.) at the 9:26 mark in the second quarter (3-2). This goal forced Becker to call a timeout as they began to feel the AMCAT pressure. The timeout proved to be helpful as the Hawks tallied five more goals second quarter goals to take an 8-2 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter saw two goals, one by Rockwal in a man-up situation to bring the AMCATS within five at the 9:50 mark (8-3). Chaganty scored the Hawk's ninth goal in a man-down situation on an assist from Blake Gordon to take a 9-4 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Chaganty tallied two more goals in the first three minutes of the final quarter to give the Hawks the ultimate 11-3 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Anna Maria travels to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. for their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup of the season. Becker travels to Wheelock on the same day for a 4:00 p.m. start.
