Schwarz Breaks Anna Maria Career Saves Record at JWU

Providence, R.I.— Sophomore goaltender Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) broke the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse career saves record with 16 saves in this evening's game at Johnson & Wales University. Schwarz surpassed the previous record of 455 career saves that was set in 2012 and now sits with a career total of 461 saves.
The AMCATS fell to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on the road on Tuesday evening (14-7). The loss drops the AMCATS to 2-7 on the season and 0-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play (GNAC) while JWU rises to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
AMCAT LEADERS
Freshman, Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) led the AMCATS in scoring with five points from three goals and two assists on the night. Malik Griffith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won nine of 16 face-offs for the AMCATS to go along with four ground balls. Daniel Rinkus (Harwinton, Conn.) also posted a team high four ground balls.
WILDCAT LEADERS
Max Stone posted five goals and three assists to lift JWU to victory while his teammate, Eric Russo chipped in with three points from a goal and two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the Max Stone show in the first half as he factored into eight of the first nine scores with five goals and three assists. Ben Farrell found the back of the net with 15 seconds remaining in the half to give the Wildcats a 12-3 halftime lead.
That was more than enough goals for the Wildcats as they continued the tough defense in the second half. Jacob deMay scored his second goal of the game in the fourth quarter to open up a 14-3 advantage. deMay joined Stone as the only two Wildcats to score more than one goal. JWU had a diverse offense with nine different players scoring a goal.
Johnson & Wales peppered Anna Maria goalkeeper Paul Schwarz all night as it held a 49-42 advantage in shorts. The Wildcats also had a slim 32-27 margin for ground balls with Farrell leading all players with five.
Brandon Pavoni led the AMCATS with three goals to go along with two assists and a pair of ground balls. Malik Griffith and Daniel Rinkus snared a team-high four grounds balls.

Anna Maria travels to Rivier on Saturday April, 8 for a 1:00 p.m. GNAC contest. Johnson & Wales is on the road Saturday when it travels to Emmanuel for a 12 p.m. contest.
