Raiders Run to 11-3 Victory Over AMCATS

Nashua, N.H—  The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team fell to the Raiders of Rivier University 11-3 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Raider Field. The loss drops the AMCATS to 2-8 overall this season and 0-2 in GNAC play while the Raiders improve to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play. 

AMCAT LEADERS

Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) led the AMCATS with a goal and an assist as well as four ground balls on the day. Malik Griffith (Brooklyn, NY) and freshman Kurt Richardson (Narragansett, R.I.) each tallied a goal in the loss. Sophomore goaltender, Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted 18 saves on the day.

RAIDER LEADERS

Rivier was led to victory by sophomore Colby Larsen who posted four points from four goals on the day. William Ryan followed that lead with three points from three goals while Joe Kelland notched three points of his own from three assists. John Cangiamila had a team high three caused turnovers.

Matt Cloutman had ten saves in goal to lift the Raiders to victory. He is now 6-4 on the season and 1-1 in GNAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Rivier opened scoring with a goal scored by William Ryan with 13:41 to play in the first to give the Raiders the early lead, 1-0. The Raiders continued their offensive attack outscoring the AMCATS five to one in the first quarter.

The AMCATS clawed their way back into the game with a goal from Pavoni that was assisted by Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.) with 8:49 left in the second quarter. However, Rivier answered back right away with a goal from Larsen with 6:16 on the clock. The Raiders would take an 8-2 lead over the AMCATS into halftime. The home team proved to be too much for the AMCATS to handle in the second half outscoring them 3-1 giving the Raiders the ultimate 11-3 victory.

Anna Maria will host Emmanuel (Mass.) on Tuesday, April 11th at 5:00 p.m. for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Rivier will host Saint Joseph's (ME) on the Wednesday, April 12th for a 7:00 p.m. start.
