Anna Maria Sails Past Wildcats, 10-3

PAXTON, Mass. –The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team soared past the visiting Wildcats of Wheelock College, 10-3 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at AMCAT field. The AMCATS improve to 2-1 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 0-1.

AMCAT LEADERS

Freshman Brandon Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) led the AMCATS to victory with five points from three goals and two assists on the night. Junior midfielder, Ryan Rockwal (Chicopee, Mass.) followed Pavoni's lead with three points on the night from his three goals. Freshman midfielder Tre Demers (Granby, Mass.) totaled a game-high five ground balls to go along with a caused turnover.

WILDCAT LEADERS
Luke McKinnon, Gary Broad, and Keenan Brown all scored goals for the Wildcats. Gary Broad led the visitors with five ground balls.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AMCATS came out of the gate firing away with a goal from Pavoni at the 14:19 mark in the first quarter to give the AMCATS the early 1-0 lead. The AMCATS would increase their lead a little later in the first quarter with a goal from Tim Harrington (Chicopee, Mass.) to go up 2-0. The Wildcats came charging back with two goals of their own in the second quarter. The visitor's first goal was by Gary Broad with 8:09 on the clock followed by a man up goal at the 2:39 mark by Luke McKinnon.
The second half of the game belonged to the AMCATS as the home team outscored the Wildcats 7-1. Rockwal scored three goals in the second half of the game. Pavoni followed Rockwal's led with two goals of his own in the second half.
    
GOALTENDERS

Sophomore Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, Mass.) totaled 18 saves in net for the AMCATS to earn a 2-1 record on the season. DiMassa recorded 11 saves in the loss for Wheelock.

FACE-OFFS

Anna Maria was victorious on nine of 17 face-offs on the evening. Freshman Brendan Bartlett (Tyngsboro, Mass.) went 7-of-15 in face-offs while Wheelock's Josh Simmons won 8-of-15 face-offs.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, March. 4 as they travel to Nichols College for a 11:00 a.m. non-conference contest. Wheelock returns to action on Sunday, March. 5 as they travel to Dean College for a non-conference match up.
