BRISTOL’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS AMCATS TO 7TH STRAIGHT VICTORY

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College senior forward Javier Bristol tossed in 14 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds for the games only double-double in the AMCATS 80-65 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over visiting Emerson College on Thursday night at The Fuller Activities Center.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 10-7 (8-2 GNAC) and extend their winning streak to 7-games and their conference consecutive streak to 8-games, while Emerson drops to .500 at 9-9 (7-4 GNAC).

Along with Bristol the AMCATS had four players reach double digits and 10 players register a point in the victory. Senior Anthony Click tossed in 13 points on two jumpers and a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe while Brad Peterson scored a game high 20 points on 6-for-7 shooting, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 2 blocks in 28 minutes of play. Junior guard Joey Barillo delivered 14 points, hitting two three pointers and dished out 3 assists.

Pacing the Lions was freshman Sean Duffy who scored 15 points and pulled down 7 rebound in just 13 minutes of play off the bench. Freshman Tyson Hallowell also played well off the bench for Emerson pouring in 8 points in the loss.

The AMCATS, who never trailed in the game, built an 11 point lead 21-10, midway thru the first stanza with a good Bristol jumper and a Tyler Delorey trey. The Lions responded with back-to-back baskets by Hallowell and sophomore Patrick Lowndes to cut the deficit to 27-21 with 6:02 remaining in the first half. Anna Maria counted with a 12-5 run down the stretch to take a 39-26 advantage into the intermission.

Anna Maria quickly built the lead to 20 points, 50-30, outscoring Emerson 11-6 just four minutes into the second half en route to the victory. Post grad Brad Peterson capped off the night with his second dunk, in as many games, off a nifty pass from Click who had caused a turnover on the defensive end.

Anna Maria held the edge in shooting percentage, 49.1% - 36.7%, and rebound 45-35, on the night.  Emerson had 10 steals and caused 21 AMCAT turnovers in the loss.

Anna Maria looks to keep up this torrid pace on Saturday afternoon when they host Johnson and Wales at 2:00pm, JWU won the first match-up of the season 74-73.
