Frederick Named to Worcester Area All-Star Team

WORCESTER, Mass.—Freshman Nate Frederick (Worcester, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College baseball team was named to the fifth annual Worcester Area Baseball All-Star team, as announced on Wednesday morning. Frederick was tabbed a second team selection.

Frederick had an impressive rookie season for the AMCATS as he led the team at the plate with a .316 batting average and a team-leading 30 hits. He also led the team with four homeruns and two triples.

He hit safely in 14-straight games between a matchup against Kings College on March 6th and a game against Johnson & Wales on April 12th. He also had two three-hit games, the first a 3-for-3 effort against Kings (Pa.) and a 3-for-5 performance against UMaine-Presque Isle on March 22nd.

In the field, Frederick held a .935 fielding percentage, making just six errors in the infield for the AMCATS. The rookie held a 12-game errorless streak during the season, beginning in Florida in game one against Kings (Pa.) on March 6th and spanning through the April 2nd doubleheader against Suffolk.

The Worcester Area Player of the Year is Alex Benditti of WPI. Holy Cross was awarded two major slots, as Brendan King was named the Pitcher of the Year and Cam O'Neill was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. Worcester State's Dr. Dirk Baker and WPI's Mike Callahan were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
