Baseball's Corey Andrade Inks Summer Deal with Genesee Rapids of NYCBL
PAXTON, Mass.—Senior first baseman Corey Andrade (Mashpee, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College baseball team has signed a contract to play in the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) this summer for the Genesee Rapids out of Houghton, N.Y.
Andrade was named a Worcester Area All-Star in 2014 after hitting .325 with a .462 on-base percentage and 10 doubles. Andrade also earned GNAC Academic All-Conference honors and was recently named to the Dean's List while serving as an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at the College.
The New York Collegiate Baseball League is a summer wood bat development league for professional baseball, founded in 1978. The league affords college players the opportunity to develop their skills at a higher level of play, gain experience with wood bats, and be evaluated by Major League Baseball scouts. The NYCBL is located in upstate New York and a small portion of the league's annual budget is funded by Major League Baseball.
NYCBL teams play a 46 game regular-season schedule with games beginning in June and ending in the last week in July. All games are nine innings, with most doubleheaders scheduled on the weekends. The All-Star game is played in early July, and the League Championship Series concludes in the first week of August.
Andrade joins a growing list of AMCATS who have spent their summers in the NYCBL. The last AMCAT baseball player to play was Jim McNamara '11, who played for the Glens Falls Eagles.
