Buccaneers Sail to 2-0 win against Men's Soccer

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference to the Buccaneers of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday evening at AMCAT Field.

With the win, the Buccaneers win their second-straight and improve to 3-3, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 0-5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Buccaneers dominated play in the physical match from the opening whistle, but it took them over 38 minutes to net their first goal. In the first half, Massachusetts Maritime held a 13-5 advantage in shots, while both teams had a corner kick apiece.

Anna Maria rattled off more shots in the second half, but the Buccaneers still outshot them, 12-10 for a final tally of 25-15 on the day. Anna Maria had a 3-2 edge in second-half corner kicks, but was unable to spark an offensive attack on any of them. The AMCATS were paced by Momodou Kaberah (Worcester, Mass.) with five shots on the day.

SCORING

First Half: The Buccaneers netted their first goal in the 38th minute of the game. They were awarded a free-kick from 25-yards out, which ricocheted of an AMCAT defender and fell at the feet of Thomas McCarthy (Tybee Island, Ga.), who one-touched it into the open net in front of him. Michael Rouette (Three Rivers, Mass.) was credited with the assist on the free-kick. McCarthy finished the team with a game-high six shots, three of which were on-target.

Second Half: In the 64th minute, Mass. Maritime's Connor McInnis (Duxbury, Mass.) took the ball off an AMCAT defender in the backfield, took a few dribbles, and shot it past Anna Maria goalkeeper Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.).

GOALKEEPERS

Kuzma posted 10 saves in the complete-game effort, while Buccaneers' goaltender Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass.) tallied nine saves.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS will travel to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a midday Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game on Saturday. The Buccaneers are also in action on Saturday for a noon match at Bridgewater State.
