AMCATS find their stride with impressive win over Lions, 17-6

PAXTON, Mass - Sophomore Chris Summers (Long Valley, N.J.) led all players with six points on four goals and two assists, as the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team defeated Emerson College by a score of 17-6 on Tuesday night. The AMCATS have now won three of their last four contests, improving their record to 3-4 on the year, while Emerson dropped its third straight to open the season at 0-3.

Summers paced Anna Maria with his six-point performance, while freshman Andrew Biscardi (Wantagh, N.Y.) continued his fine rookie campaign with five points on four goals and an assist, in addition to his five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.) and sophomore Rodrigo Henriques (Saugus, Mass.) also had five points apiece for Anna Maria as Henriques led all players with four assists and 17 ground balls, while winning 16-of-24 face-off attempts. Sophomore Alex Natterstad (Upton, Mass.) had a strong game as well, contributing four points on three goals and one assist, while sophomore Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned the win in between the pipes, improving his season mark to 2-4.

Anna Maria jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, getting two early goals from Biscardi. However, the Lions answered right back with three unanswered goals to end the first frame with a 4-3 advantage.

The AMCATS responded by completely dominating the second quarter, outscoring the Lions 6-0 during the frame. Summers was a key factor in AMC's impressive second quarter, contributing two goals and two assists to give the AMCATS a 9-4 lead at the break.

Anna Maria remained in control the rest of the way, closing out the 17-6 victory by scoring the game's final five goals.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Thursday when they host conference-foe Nichols College at 6:00 pm.
