Cadets March to 14-4 Win over Men's Lacrosse

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) and freshman Connor Loughran (Stowe, Vt.) each recorded a hat trick with Loughran handing out two assists to lead the Norwich University men's lacrosse team to a 14-4 win over Anna Maria in Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Norwich improves to 3-6 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC, while Anna Maria drops to 1-9 on the year and 0-2 in league play. Norwich owned a 30-14 shot margin, a 47-36 ground ball margin and a 13-9 mark in face-offs. Norwich was also a perfect one-for-one on extra man opportunities. 

Seven different players scored a goal for the Cadets with freshman Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) drilling a pair of goals on four shots, while sophomores Michael Cashman (East Kingston, N.H.), Nolan Aurelia (Stratford, Conn.), Nick Imbriani (Foxboro, Mass.) along with seniors Pete Soonthornprapuet (Pelham, N.H.), Jimmy Warden (North Andover, Mass.) and Ryan McCarthy (Medford, Mass.) each recorded a goal with McCarthy adding four assists in the win.

The Cadets scored 10 straight over the course of three quarters until Anna Maria's Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) scored unassisted to snap the AMCATS' scoring drought. Jenkins notched the hat trick in the third quarter for Norwich's 11-1 lead until Anna Maria scored three straight in the fourth quarter with senior Zachary Sylvia (Tiverton, R.I.) finding the net once as Rezendes drilled in a pair of goals in the streak for the hat trick.

Loughran would score back-to-back goals for the hat trick before Cashman closed out the contest for the 14-4 win with the Cadets picking up their second straight conference win of the season.

Freshman netminder Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) would pick up the win after stopping all two shots on goal in the first half before classmate Liam DeBiase (Scotia, N.Y.)and junior Jake Anderson (Adams, Mass.) shared time in between the pipes in the second half. Anna Maria's Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) played all 60 minutes in goal for the AMCATS, collecting 16 saves on 30 shots on goal in the loss.

Norwich is back in action on Saturday, April 9 at Emmanuel College for the 3 p.m. GNAC contest. Anna Maria will travel to New Haven, Conn. for the 7 p.m. GNAC matchup against Albertus Magnus College.
