Highlanders Top AMCAT Lacrosse, 10-2

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-2 non-conference decision to the Houghton College Highlanders on Thursday afternoon.

The win boosts Houghton to 2-4, while Anna Maria falls to 1-5.

AMCAT LEADERS

Freshman Zachary Bryant (Saco, Maine) was the lone scorer for Anna Maria, scoring both AMCAT goals in the second quarter. He took a team-high nine shots, five of which were on-target.

Nicholas Cesarksi (New Fairfield, Conn.) scooped up six ground balls for the AMCATS, followed by Edward Jankowski (Billerica, Mass.) with four.

HOUGHTON LEADERS

The Highlanders saw a game-high four goals and an assist by Paul Chapman (Kemptville, Ont.). Austin Anyryshak (Horseheads, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist, while Cole Chapman (Kemptville, Ont.) scored twice. Jacob Samuelson (Lander, Pa.) added a final tally in the fourth quarter.

Paul Chapman took a game-high 10 shots, placing seven of them on-net, and also scooped up a team-best seven ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Houghton wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Andryshak fed Paul Chapman for a quick score at the 13:37 mark. The two switched places for Houghton's second goal at the 6:40 mark. Paul Chapman then scored two unassisted tallies at 5:20 and 1:37 to put his Highlanders up 4-0.

Anna Maria would break up the shutout with the first score of the second quarter as Bryant scored 26 seconds in the quarter, but both teams scored two goals apiece in the frame to maintain Houghton's four-goal lead.

Houghton scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter and added a 10th tally midway through the fourth quarter.

Anna Maria maintained possession for a 45-second stretch under two minutes and took a few shots but was unable to find the back of the net again.

GOALTENDERS

Anna Maria freshman netminder Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied 16 saves, while Chris Bucciarelli (Horseheads, N.Y.) posted six saves in net for the Highlanders.

FINAL COMPARISONS

Nathan Moore (Kane, Pa.) won 10 of 15 face-offs on the day, while Malik Griffith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won five for Anna Maria. The Highlanders were successful on 20 of 25 clear-attempts to Anna Maria's 15-for-24 efforts.

Houghton also outshot Anna Maria 32-20 on the day.

Anna Maria travels to Becker next Wednesday, March 30th, for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game. Houghton is also in action on Wednesday, hosting Elmira in a 7:00 p.m. Empire 8 game.
