Dan Mulrooney Named Anna Maria Head Football Coach

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College Athletic Department has named Dan Mulrooney the Head Football Coach as announced by Athletic Director, Serge DeBari on Wednesday morning. Mulrooney joins the Anna Maria community following three years serving as the Defensive Coordinator at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

Over his three years coordinating the defense at WPI the team has grown immensely. Their defense became one of the top defenses in the Liberty League conference and in 2015 WPI had its best season in 23 years. In 2016, WPI reached new heights by having its first back to back winning season since 1995. They participated in an ECAC bowl game for only the third time in 126 years.

Mulrooney looks to bring a "new culture" to the Anna Maria football program as he has done for WPI. "I am an enthusiastic, dedicated, hardworking coach who strives to develop student-athletes to reach their maximum potential…The team will only be as good as the culture that is created since day one." This is the philosophy Mulrooney plans to lead the Anna Maria College football program under.

"He is a hardworking football coach with a great attitude looking for an opportunity to develop high character student-athletes on an off the field" said Athletic Director Serge DeBari, "I believe Mulrooney has a great deal of experience and knowledge to bring to the football program; I look forward to working with him in developing and growing the Anna Maria College football team."

Mulrooney attended Boston College for his undergraduate degree and was a full scholarship student – athlete for the football program. Mulrooney played Safety at Boston College and was a part of four bowl games and two ACC Championships games. After graduating from Boston College in 2011, He finished his playing career with a two-year stint at Stony Brook University. He was the Seawolves leader in tackles in 2011 and was named Team Defensive Newcomer of the Year.  At Stony Brook he won Two – Big South Titles and helped lead the team to multiple NCAA playoff berths. He was a standout player at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, Conn. where he was all-state twice and won a pair of state championships. 

Mulrooney earned a communication degree from Boston College and a Masters Degree in liberal arts from Stony Brook.
