McCauley Named Head Men's Hockey Coach

PAXTON, Mass - The Anna Maria College Athletic Department has announced that men's ice hockey will be added as a sport, beginning with the 2018-19 season, according to Director of Athletics Serge DeBari.

The AMCATS will play their home games at the Horgan Arena in Aubirn, Mass. On Thursday November 16th Debari announced the hiring of David McCauley, a Weymouth, Mass native, as the program's first head coach.

"Anna Maria College is excited to be expanding its Athletics offering with the addition of men's ice hockey," said DeBari. "Horgan Arena in Auburn is one of the premiere hockey facilities in New England.  We are excited that David McCauley will be leading our men's program. It is not often that a first-year program can attract a coach who has such an impressive personal and coaching resume.  Beginning a new program is always challenging but certainly a challenge that David has already proven he is capable of handling."

Coach McCauley comes to the AMCATS with over 20 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels along with professional playing experience.

After four years of varsity high school hockey at Weymouth South High School in Weymouth, Mass, where he was team captain and broke the school scoring record, David attended Salem State University where he played four years collegiately for the Vikings and served as an assistant captain. He is also among the all-time leading scorers at SSU. Following his amateur career McCauley played one year professionally for the Nashville Knights of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

Coach McCauley began his coaching career in in 1995 in his hometown of Weymouth as the Head JV hockey coach at Weymouth High School where he led his team to a 19-0-0 season. Following his year at Weymouth high he moved on to Norwell High School to become the assistant coach with the varsity team. After his time in the high school ranks Coach began working with USA Hockey as an instructor and evaluator and also earned his level 4 coaching certification.

In 2000 McCauley took the position of assistant hockey coach and head recruiter at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass where he would go on to recruit two All-Americans, a rookie of the year and a goaltender of the year.

After his time at Babson, David took over as General Manager at the Bay State Breakers junior hockey club in Kingston, Mass and served as a head coach. During his 13 years with the Breakers he placed more than 100 players in division one programs and over 60 players in division three programs. He also manager a win percentage of .672 during his time.

Most recently Coach McCauley served as the executive director of the JHP Sports Management Group.
