Blue Jays Soar Past Tennis, 9-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College tennis team was swept by the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.  

The win boosts the Blue Jays to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in GNAC play, while Anna Maria remains winless on the season over seven matches.

DOUBLES

Three USJ duos took won by scores of 8-0 to claim an early 3-0 lead. Rebecca Mauri and Lucy Roberge downed Marrissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.) and Johanna Dean (Carrollton, Texas) at the top slot.

SINGLES

Dean and Leonard were the only two to win sets in singles play but their efforts were not enough as Dean fell to Mauri by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Leonard fell to Sahinah Abdulsalam 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

WHAT'S NEXT

Anna Maria continues their five-match home stretch on Wednesday, October 5th when they host Suffolk in GNAC play at 3:00 p.m. They round out their home stand with a noon non-conference match against Becker on Sunday, October 9th
