Tennis Downs Curry 9-0 for First Victory of 2014

MILTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's tennis team recorded their first victory of 2014 in commanding fashion, sweeping the Colonels of Curry College 9-0 in Friday afternoon's non-conference match.

Sophomore Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.) and senior Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) kicked things off with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the AMCAT pair of freshman Nicola Zamira (Mashpee, Mass.) and junior Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) took an 8-5 win, while sophomore Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.) and sophomore Marrissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.) tallied an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

All six AMCATS recorded victories in their singles pairings, as well. Gautieri recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win against Curry's Kayla Prete at No. 1 singles, while Goudreau downed Laura Feris 6-2, 6-3.

Zamira posted scores of 6-1, 6-1 against Curry's Alexandra Moschetto in the third slot, while Edelson downed Alison Rhodes 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.

Mulcahy and Leonard won at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, in straight sets against Jennifer Dube and Sanjay Toure.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 1-4 on the season, while the loss drops the Colonels to 0-9. Anna Maria will return to action on Sunday, September 28th for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Simmons College.  Start time is slated for noon.
