Tennis Claims 7-2 Victory against Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's tennis team had their home opener spoiled as they dropped a 7-2 decision to Anna Maria College in non-conference play this evening at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-2 to start the young season while the AMCATS improve to an even 1-1.

DOUBLES 

The AMCATS got out to a fast start on the night, taking a 3-0 sweep in the doubles portion of the match. Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.) and Ashley Fernandes (West Bridgewater, Mass.) earned an 8-1 win over Lynx sophomore Courtney Goggin and junior Hannah Levensailor before Marissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.) and Freya Sprous (Ware, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-3 win over Rose Heller and Theresa Pereira. Nicola Zamira (Mashpee, Mass.) and Morgan Rodriguez (Ludlow, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with a come from behind 8-6 win over sophomore Caroline Kiddie and junior Frances De Leon.

SINGLES

In the singles portion of the match, Mulcahy topped Pereira 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles match before Fernandes dropped Heller 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 match to give Anna Maria the win.

Kiddie gave the Lynx their first victory in singles as she defeated Zamira 6-0, 6-1 in the first match while De Leon followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Rodriguez in second singles. Palmer posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Levensailor in No. 6 singles while Leonard wrapped up the evening with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Goggin in the fifth match.

Anna Maria will kick off a three-match home stand on Friday when they play host to Curry College at 3:00p.
