Softball Splits in Day Two of Action in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Anna Maria College softball team downed Regis College, 9-0, in the first half of Monday's doubleheader before falling 8-0 to Indiana Wesleyan University at the Fastpitch Dreams Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

With today's results, the AMCATS improve to 2-2 overall.

Lead-off batter Amanda Lemire (Methuen, Mass.) tallied a game-high three hits, scored two runs and posted one RBI in the AMCATS win.

The game was scoreless through three innings. In the top of the fourth, Marissa Pingeton (Worcester, Mass.) singled through the left side to score Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.), giving Anna Maria the 1-0 lead. They added two more runs in the fifth inning when Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) singled to center field to score Samantha Miller and Lemire.

Anna Maria did most of their damage in the top of the sixth, as the AMCATS put two runners on base on a single by Ashley George (Leicester, Mass.) and an error by the Regis pitcher, which put Elizabeth Haggerty (Charlton, Mass.) on base. A single by Lemire scored Ashley Bricault (Cumberland, R.I.), who was pinch running for George.

The next batter, Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.), doubled to left center to score Lemire and Haggerty. Miller followed that up with a single and stole second, setting up Turley for a two-RBI triple down the right field line. Justine Lalonde (Shirley, N.Y.) scored Turley with a single through the left side to put the AMCATS up 9-0.

Regis was unable to score any runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Anna Maria took the six-inning mercy-rule.

Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) earned her second-straight win in the circle for Anna Maria, sacrificing no runs, no walks and eight hits in six innings. She struck out one batter.

Regis starter Katie Cuozzo took the loss, completing five innings and giving up seven hits, one earned run, two walks while striking out four. She was relieved by Marissa Magarian, who gave up six hits and two earned runs in one inning.

Indiana Wesleyan 8, Anna Maria 0

Indiana Wesleyan held the AMCATS to just three hits while tallying 10 hits of their own en route to an 8-0 shutout win against Anna Maria.

Starting pitcher Jenessa Guevara earned the win in the circle, giving up all three AMCAT hits while striking out six batters. Reliever Carlie Weaver added three strikeouts in one inning of action.

Lemire, Moran, and Haggerty all recorded hits for the AMCATS.

Angela Vousboukis (Swampscott, Mass.) took the loss in the circle, sacrificing 10 hits, six earned runs and one walk in 4.2 innings pitched.
