Saints March Past AMCATS, 3-1

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College men's soccer was downed 3-1 by the Emmanuel College Saints in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Monday evening.

The AMCAT defense was under pressure from start to finish.  The Saints held the advantage in shots, 21-7, and corner kicks, 4-1.

The Saints scored the games' first goal nine minutes into the contest.  Senior Allan Parrelli (Reading, MA) beat two AMCAT defenders on the left side of the box and nailed a well-placed shot past Dahl.  Emmanuel doubled their lead in the 28th minute when senior Danny Richman (Medfield, MA) fed junior James Carroll (Guilford, CT) streaking down the middle of the field, blasting home a shot that deflected off of Dahl, who came out to challenge the shot.  The Saints scored their third goal two minutes later as sophomore Kurt Pruner (Penfield, N.Y.) headed a cross from freshman Jeff Allen (South Windsor, CT) into the top left corner of the AMCAT goal.

Despite being down 3-0 to start the second half, the AMCATs worked hard to keep themselves in the game, holding the Saints off the scoreboard for the rest of the match.  Sophomore goalie Andrew Dahl (Marlton, N.J.) made 7 saves on the day.  The lone AMCAT goal was scored by freshman Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, MA) with 9 minutes remaining in the contest.  Freshman Gregory Cory (Beacon, N.Y.) laced a pass to the front of the Saints net and Mattioli headed home the goal to cut the Saints lead to 3-1.

Ultimately, Emmanuel was able to handle the rest of Anna Maria's offensive chances, as junior goalie Garrett Charette (W. Springfield, MA) closed the game out, collecting four saves on the day.

The AMCATS return to action on Saturday, October 19th when they travel to Albertus Manus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at 3:15 PM.
