Hyland Heads AMC Past Becker

Paxton, Mass. – Senior Justin Hyland (Leicester, Mass.) notched two goals for Anna Maria in a 3-1 victory over Becker College in non-conference men's soccer match on Tuesday night at AMCAT Field. With the win the AMCAT move to 3-2-1 overall while the Hawks remain winless at 0-9.

The AMCATS tipped the twine in the 23rd minute of the first half. Freshman Christopher Clark (Milford, Mass.) delivered a precision pass off a corner kick to the middle that junior Bryan Blomgren (Auburn, Mass.) headed to Hyland, who headed the ball past Becker goaltender Tim MacDonald (Holden, Mass.).

Hyland doubled the lead for Anna Maria when he potted a 40-yard direct kick to the opposite post for the 2-0 advantage. The AMCATS would push the lead to 3-0 before the intermission. Again with a direct kick, freshman Jonathan Alicea (Feeding Hills, Mass.) found an open Blomgren in front of the net for the third score of the half.

Becker would break-up the shutout in the second half. A streaking Ryan Barry (North Attleboro, Mass.) would find an open Ryan Castro (Shirley, Mass.) for his first score of the season.

Anna Maria netminder Andrew Dahl (Marlton, NJ) would make one save for the win while MacDonald would post nine saves in the loss.

Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday afternoon when they host Mass. Maritime Academy at 4:00pm, while Becker will host Newbury on September 28th at 1:00 pm.
