Worcester Rival Takes Down ‘Cats

NAPLES, Florida – In their second game of the day Tuesday, the AMCATS faced off against one of their Worcester rivals, Clark University, in the first of three matchups this season. Going in to the second game, Clark holds the advantage as they downed the AMCATS 10-2 Tuesday morning.

For the AMCATS, Sabrina Carreira (West Hartford, Conn) continued her good day with a multi-hit game, going two-for-two. The AMCATS two runs in the game were driven in by Kathryn Rendock (Windsor, Conn) and Lauren Lapierre (Worcester, Mass). Scoring the runs for the 'Cats was Annie Melanson (Grafton, Mass) and Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass).

Clark had two players with multi-hit performances as Christina Kopacz and Anjelica Gonzalez each had two hits in the game. Kopacz hits were both doubles. Gonzalez had a two-bagger as well and drove in three runs in the game.

Things started off well for the AMCATS in this one as they struck first in the top of the first when Rendock singled to score J. Lapierre. The next two innings were slow until Anna Maria scored their second run in the top of the third.

The AMCATS took their two-run advantage in to the fourth inning and that is when the Clark offense erupted. They would tie the game at two in the fourth and then score eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game 10-2 by run rule once the tenth run, giving them the eight run lead, crossed the plate.

The AMCATS will finish their Florida Spring Break schedule tomorrow morning with games against New Jersey City University and Kenyon College at 9 and 11am in Fort Myers.
