AMCATS Beaten by Geneva

FORT MYERS, Fla – Monday afternoon the AMCATS took on Geneva College in Florida. Things didn't start off well for Anna Maria and the Golden Tornados won the game 10-2.

The AMCATS only mustered three hits in the game. Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass) had two of those hits, going two-for-three in the game, with a single and a triple. Seniors Amanda Lemire (Methuen, Mass) and Hannah Trudo (Pomfret Center, Conn) scored the only two runs of the game for the 'Cats in the third and fifth respectively.

Geneva's offense was much more explosive with two players scoring multiple runs and one scoring three times. Marina Manuppelli went one-for-three in the game. She reached base on a single, walk and an error by the AMC shortstop. Each time she reached base she scored, accounting for three of Geneva's 10 runs. Freshman Madison Schultz also reached base three times, scoring twice.

The Golden Tornados led things off in the top of the first by batting around and scoring four runs and would add two more in the second. Meanwhile, the AMCATS would go down in order in the first and the second, having no answer for Geneva.

Geneva added another run in the third inning which was matched by Anna Maria in the bottom of the inning. The Golden Tornados held an 8-1 lead after three.

The fifth inning would go similarly to the third for both teams as they would each add a run. Now 9-2 after four innings, Geneva needed just one more run to end the game by run rule in the sixth. They would add that run and Anna Maria went down one-two-three in the 6th. The Golden Tornados beat the AMCATS 10-2 in six innings.
