2018 Softball Schedule Released

PAXTON, Mass – Featuring matchups against Elms College as well as Clark University, the team's trip to the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla and their usual GNAC schedule, the AMCATS softball schedule was released in full this week.

Head Coach Larry Sasso enters his first season at the helm for AMC with over 30 years of youth and community baseball coaching experience, he will lead the AMCATS in their 2018 campaign that will be headlined by their 24-game Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule.

"We are very much anticipating our trip to Florida. It will be a great experience for our team to play against some quality opponents from all over the country," Coach Sasso said, "What I like about this team is their energy and mentality. We are coming in to this year with a clear prospective on the season. We aren't going in to this year with any preconceived notions, with the idea that we can succeed against the teams we are up against. We are a young team with only four seniors and will only be as strong as our team is as a whole and plan to take our games one at a time. I am optimistic about this team because of their positive energy, high work ethic, and excitement to get on the field. We have a lot of talent and a lot to prove against a challenging schedule. Our ultimate goal is to be the most industrious team in the conference. We will prepare for each team carefully and outwork every opponent," added Sasso.

The AMCATS will begin play with a double header against Albion College and Waynesburg University on Sunday, March 4th in Fort Myers, Fla. They will play a total of eight games while down south, a Spring Break schedule that includes regional opponents, Elm College and Clark University as well as program's from the Midwest like Kenyon College and Penn State Altoona.

A point of excitement for the program is they will be playing their home schedule on the campus of Anna Maria College after a long layoff. "The team is very excited to be playing on campus," said coach Sasso, "We are very pleased with the work the facilities department did to build the field up to a level where we can play on it again. We want to extend a big thank you to the sophomore class and faculty member Ron Johnson from Bay Path Regional High School who put up our new dugouts." Their first game on home turf will come against Elms College on Wednesday, March 14th at 3pm.

The 'Cats will open their 24-game GNAC slate in a double header against Johnson & Wales at home on Saturday, March 24th and they will close their conference and regular season schedule at home against Simmons College on Saturday, April 28th.

There is a lot of excitement around this year's team. With a handful of new players and a number of familiar faces, the new look AMCATS are looking forward to a successful campaign in conference and down south. Coach Sasso said, "We are a family on and off the field. Every player genuinely cares about each other and we all want to do well as a team. We are going to represent Anna Maria College positively no matter where we go and who we play."
