Baseball Stumbles at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. - Host Daniel Webster posted five runs in the first inning and took advantage of four Anna Maria miscues over the course of the day on the way to an 8-2 victory over the AMCATS Wednesday at Harvey Woods Field.

Daniel Webster improves to 5-8 on the season while Anna Maria drops to 2-15.

AMCAT LEADERS

Matthew Leahey (Rutland, Mass.) was 2-for-4 for the AMCATS (2-15) while Tanner Jakola (Leominster, Mass.) and Nick Feola (N. Providence, R.I.) knocked in runs.

DANIEL WEBSTER LEADERS

Colby Gunter (Nashua) knocked in two runs and Mike Pelletier (Pelham, N.H.) was 2 for 4 as the Eagles (5-8) halted a four-game skid. Zack Cartwright ( ), Mark Ruiz (Framingham, Mass.) and Clint Goodwin (Lebanon, N.H.) all added single RBI.

PITCHING 

Nick Goodin (Dracut, Mass.) picked up the win (2-2) with 3 1/3 innings of middle relief. Callan Finn-MacMahon (West Hartford, Conn.) took the loss (1-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED

DWC tacked on a pair of runs in the third and the teams traded runs in the fourth to give DWC an 8-1 lead at the time.

All eight of the Eagles runs were unearned. DWC pushed their five across in the first on just two hits aided by three Anna Maria errors. Ruiz pushed a run across with a bases loaded walk and Goodwin later connected for a two out RBI single.

DWC's two in the third on one hit. Gunter would single home Goodwin who led off reaching on an error and Devin DeCarteret (Pelham) would up it to 7-0 in a Cartwright ground out.

Feola's single in the fourth scored Connor Lavin (Leicester, Mass.) to put AMC on the board and Pelletier followed in the bottom of the frame leading off with a single and later scoring on a passed ball.

Jakola would connect for a two-out single to score Leahey (double) for the final run of the game.

Anna Maria visits Elms on Saturday for a pair beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Daniel Webster is right back in action on Thursday hosting Plymouth State at 3:30 p.m.
