Forshaw's gem leads Pilgrims to sweep of AMCATS

WORCESTER, Mass. (04.06.11) - Senior Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.) threw a complete game shutout in the night cap to help the Pilgrims of New England College complete a TCCC sweep over the Anna Maria AMCATS at O'Brien Field on Wednesday. The Pilgrims took a wild game one by a score of 10-7, and completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory in game two. The Pilgrims improve to 6-10 overall and 5-3 in the TCCC, while the AMCATS drop to 8-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

GAME TWO

In game two, Forshaw kept the AMCATS off balance, scattering just three hits. The Pilgrims got on the board in the second when Hoot led off with double. Robbins followed and promptly launched a laser over the left field fence to give the Pilgrims a 2-0 lead.

NEC struck again in the fourth, adding two runs to take a 4-0 lead.

The Pilgrims tacked a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Sarah Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.), before right fielder Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) ended the inning by gunning a runner down at home.

The five runs were more than enough for Forshaw, as the AMCATS were unable to get anything going offensively.

Cummings, Hurley, and Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) each had a hit for the AMCATS in game two. Michelle Blackler (Ashland, Mass.) took the loss for AMCATS despite giving up only four earned runs. The Pilgrims, who had 12 hits in game two, were led by both Hoot and Robbins who each contributed two hits and two runs scored.

The Pilgrims return to action on Thursday when travel to Curry for a TCCC double header at 3:30pm. The AMCATS will also play on Thursday as they look to bounce back versus Gordon on the road at 3:00 pm.
