AMCATS Net 5-4 Win Over Albertus Magnus

Paxton, Mass. –  The Anna Maria College men's tennis team captured a 5-4 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday Night at Paxton Sports Center. The AMCATS picked up their first win of the season moving to 1-7 (1-2 GNAC) while the Falcons drop to 3-6, 0-4 GNAC on the season.

 It was senior day for Anna Maria as Head Coach Adam Williamson recognized Cody Brigham (Spencer, Mass.), Ben Chick-Reny (Lewiston, ME), Juan Gomez (Worcester, MA) and LeGrand Haughton (Bensalem, Mass.) in a pre-game ceremony.

The AMCATS opened the evening with two wins in doubles action. The number one tandem of Dillon George (Holden, MA) and Calvin Weeks (Glen Ellyn, IL) took down the Falcon pair of Pete Zacharias and Markus Artiaz, 8-6. At No. 2 Cody Brigham and Ben Chick-Reny downed Cerrone Bell and Mathew Mezzei, 8-2. AMCAT seniors' Jose Rivera and LeGrand Haughton dropped the third flight 8-6 to Albertus.

Anna Maria scored single wins at flight one and two, while Albertus took the three and four spot. Dillon George downed Zacharias 6-0, 6-3 and Calvin Weeks picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) win over Artias for AMC.  

The Falcons won the No. 6 slot with an 6-0, 6-1 win, leaving the match to be decided at number five.  LeGrand Haughton notched a gutsy 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win over Elvis Santana to give Anna Maria the hard fought victory.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Norwich University for a 1:00pm GNAC match-up.
