AMCATS Blanked by Wentworth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Dropping just two points in three doubles matches and not dropping a set in singles play, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 9-0 win over Anna Maria in non-conference action played ta the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School.

Junior Andy Chen (New Taipei City, Taiwan) teamed with sophomore Dylan Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) took an 8-0 win at number three doubles over junior Ricky Louis (Brockton, Mass.) and Juan Gomez. Freshmen James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and Sean Murray (North Brookfield, Mass.) teamed to take an 8-0 win over seniors Cody Brigham (East Brookfield, Mass.) and LeGrand Houghton (Philadelphia, Pa.). Seniors Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) and Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) gave the Leopards a 3-0 lead with an 8-2 win over sophomore Calvin Weeks (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and junior Ben Chick-Remy (Lewiston, Maine).

Filar topped Brigham at number three singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Chen beat Houghton, 6-2, 6-2, at number four to clinch the match for Wentworth.

Melnik won at number five, 6-2, 6-2, Drum defeated Chick-Reny, 6-3, 6-2, at number two, freshman Josh Down (Bristol, Conn.) defeated Gomez, 6-3, 6-2, at number six, and Rodriguez defeated Weeks, 6=2, 6-3, at number one.

Wentworth improves to 4-4 and hosts Salve Regina on Tuesday. Anna Maria falls to 0-6 and hosts UMass Boston tomorrow at Noon.
