Men’s Tennis drops season opener against Bridgewater State

PAXTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's tennis team opened the 2013 season falling to Bridgewater State University 8-1 on Saturday evening at the Paxton Sports Centre.

 

Anna Maria's (0-1) lone point of the match came at first singles as freshman Dillon George (Holden, Mass.) won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

 

The Bears (1-0) swept all three doubles matches and took five of the six singles flights to come away with the non-conference win.

Sophomore Calvin Weeks (Glen Ellyn, IL) and George dropped the doubles top spot 8-3, while the tandems of James Milligan (Grafton, MA) /Ben Chick-Reny (Lewiston, ME) and Cody Brigham (Spencer, MA)/George Kiristy (Worcester, MA) were shutout 8-0 in the second and third flights.

After George's victory in the singles slot the AMCATS were blanked the rest of the way. Weeks' fell 6-1, 6-1 at number two while Milligan had a hard fought 6-3, 6-3 loss in the third slot.

 

Senior Ben Chick-Reny, Brigham and Kiritsy rounded out the AMCATS singles matches as they each dropped straight sets at the fourth, fifith and sixth flights, respectively.

 

The AMCATS travel to Wentworth on Wednesday afternoon for a four o'clock match with the Leopards.
