Clark Claims Two over Softball

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Anna Maria College softball team dropped a pair of games to the Cougars of Clark University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. Clark posted a come-from-behind 4-3 win in game one before claiming a 8-0 mercy-rule victory in the nightcap.

Today's victories boost Clark to 8-12 on the season, while Anna Maria falls to 2-9.

GAME ONE – CLARK 4, ANNA MARIA 3

Anna Maria held a 3-2 lead through four full innings, but a two-run fifth inning pushed the Cougars past the AMCATS.

Clark scored first in the contest, using a three-hit inning to score leadoff batter Olivia Barksdale on an RBI single to centerfield by Lauren Mackey.

Anna Maria was quick to respond as they scored all three runs in the top of the fourth. Amanda Lemire (Methuen, Mass.) led off the inning with a single and scored on a double to right field by Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.). Lapierre would then score on a single by Amy Clement (Townsend, Mass.). Clement took third on an error by Clark's third baseman and then scored as Victoria Falco (Marlborough, Mass.) reached first on a fielder's choice.

The AMCATS tallied three of their six hits in the productive fourth inning. Lemire and Sarah Coley (Worcester, Mass.) both finished 2-for-3 in the game.

Clark added a single run in the bottom of the inning as Danielle Tesler led off with a double and saw her pinch runner score two batters later on a single by Kayleigh McHugh.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by Mackey and Rachel Kraytenberg plated the game-tying and game-winning runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Clark pitcher Brenna Foley held the AMCATS hitless over the sixth and seventh innings. She earned the complete-game victory while allowing six hits, two earned runs and one walk while striking out six.

Anna Maria pitcher Angela Vousboukis (Swampscott, Mass.) scattered 11 hits, four earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work.

For Clark, Alyssa Wright, Mackey and Krayenberg all batted 2-for-3. Mackey posted a game-high two RBI, while five other players notched hits in the win. Clark combined for five doubles on the day.

GAME TWO – CLARK 8, ANNA MARIA 0 (FIVE INNINGS)

Clark scored four runs over the first two innings and added an additional four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to en route to the five-inning mercy-rule victory.

Kraytenberg drove in four of those runs singlehandedly, batting 3-for-3 with a double and a home run.

Mackey finished 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI.

Clark pitcher Sami West held the AMCATS to just one hit, a bunt single by Lapierre in the fourth inning. West recorded nine strikeouts on the day and faced just one batter over the minimum.

Freshman Ally Hamelin (Greenfield, Mass.) took the loss, scattering four hits, four earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work. She was relieved by Alexis Romano (Lowell, Mass.), who scattered six hits, four earned runs and a walk in 2.1 innings.
