Lowe, Lapierre Earn GNAC Softball Pitcher, Rookie of the Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass.—Senior pitcher Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) and freshman outfielder Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) have been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Lowe and Lapierre become the first two members of the AMCAT program to earn conference weekly awards this season.

Lowe earned two wins in the circle for the AMCATS, totaling 26.2 innings pitched and throwing four complete-games in Anna Maria's eight-game series in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week. She compiled a 3.68 ERA and totaled 12 strikeouts, averaging 3.15 strikeouts per game.

The AMCATS' senior pitcher had her best performance of the week in Anna Maria's 3-1 win against John Jay, where she scattered nine hits and one run while fanning six John Jay batters.

Lapierre led the team at the plate on the week, totaling seven hits, including two doubles, in 20 at-bats for a .350 batting average. The freshman outfielder batted-in two runs, scored four, and stole three bases on the week for Anna Maria. At the plate, she totaled a .409 on-base percentage and slugged a .450. She also posted a .947 fielding percentage, making just one error in 19 attempts.

She had her best performance at the plate in the AMCATS' 9-0 win against Regis, where she tallied a single and a double, drove in two runs, and scored one herself in four-at bats.

The AMCATS finished their trip to South Carolina with a 2-6 record. The team is scheduled to be idle until Saturday, March 21st, when they travel to the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) for a GNAC doubleheader slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
