Blue Jays Fly Away with Two from Softball

WEST HARTFORD, CT: On Saturday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball team traveled to meet the University of St. Joseph (CT) Blue Jays for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at USJ Athletic Complex Softball Field.

THE BASICS:

• Game 1: Anna Maria 1, St. Joseph (CT) 9 (6 Innings)
• Game 2: Anna Maria 0, St. Joseph (CT) 8 (5 Innings)
• Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 10-25 (0-8 GNAC) | St. Joseph (CT) Blue Jays 18-17 (4-6 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

• GAME 1
  • The AMCATS plated the game's first run in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by graduate student first baseman Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY). The home run was Garcia's first of the season and the fifth of her career. Her last home run came last season on March 7^th against Penn State Abington.
  • Senior third baseman Samantha Dahill (Littleton, MA) had the AMCATS' only other extra-base hit when she smacked a double to lead off the game but was stranded at third base.
• GAME 2
  • The AMCATS were kept off the scoreboard the second game but their hitters did still have some success on the day. The big hit was a third-inning double by graduate student designated player Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA).
  • Junior catcher Saylor Costa (East Providence, RI) was 2-3 with a pair of singles while senior shortstop Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT) was also on base twice with a single and a walk.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Saturday when they will wrap up the regular season when they host Emmanuel College Saints for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at the AMCATS softball field located near the Fuller Activities Center. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
