Softball Finishes GNAC Run At Emmanuel

- BOSTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball team concluded their season with a 6-1 loss at Emmanuel College in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, seeing the end to a season that saw the AMCATS reach the GNAC championship tournament for the first time in school history.

THE BASICS:

- Date: Tuesday, 5/4/2021
- Score: Emmanuel 6, Anna Maria 1
- Records: Saints of Emmanuel (17-4), AMCATS of Anna Maria (4-21)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Down 3-0 going into the top of the sixth, the AMCATS finally found some daylight. After senior Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH) reached on an error, junior Shay Savoie (Namao, AB), continuing her stellar season, singled to give Anna Maria just their second hit of the day. Freshman Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) then loaded the bases with no outs off a fielder's choice. On the very next at bat, freshman Saylor Costa (E. Providence, RI) plated the AMCATS' first run of the game off an RBI fielder's choice, scoring Shaw. But the next two batters struck out as the Saints escaped the inning. Emmanuel scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, effectively putting the game out of reach.
  • Savoie finished with two hits on the day.
