Softball Downed By Brandeis

- PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball team lost both games of their Wednesday doubler-header to visiting Brandeis University, with scores of 7-1 and 16-4.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/14/2021
- Score: Game 1 - Brandeis 7, Anna Maria 1 | Game 2 – Brandeis 16, Anna Maria 4
- Records: Brandeis (4-0), Anna Maria (3-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Game one saw Brandeis take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, the hit two home runs later on to total seven runs. Anna Maria junior Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) spoiled the shutout with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth to plate junior Shay Savoie (Namao, AB).  

- Game two saw Anna Maria rally from a 3-0 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third. First, senior Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) doubled to center to plate senior Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH); this was  followed by Savoie scoring from third on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch, and finishing when freshman Kiara Edmonds (Lynn, MA) singled to plate two more from Garcia and sophomore designated player Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT). The AMCATS took a 4-3 lead. But it would not hold up as the Judges answered with 13 straight runs to close out the game.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Savoie totaled two of Anna Maria's seven hits on the day.

- Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they host Simmons in a 12:00 p.m. double-header.
