Football Holds Annual Awards Banquet

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College football team held their annual team awards banquet on Sunday, March 15th. Families, friends, coaches and student-athletes gathered in the school dining hall to recognize the individual achievements of the 2014 squad.

Junior running back Christopher Bettano (Tewksbury, Mass.) was named the team's Offensive Most Valuable Player, while Michael Sinto (Long Island, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player.

The Special Teams Most Valuable Player award was presented to punter Stefano Marziale (Cranston, R.I.), who was the only member of the AMCAT squad to earn Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) First Team honors this season.

The AMCAT coaching staff also recognized an offensive and defensive rookies: Trai Weaver (Waterbury, Conn.) was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Tyler Jacobs (New Bedford, Mass.) earned the Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Senior running back Robert Payer (Needham, Mass.) was named the recipient of the Dan McKenna Award, which is given to a senior football player who has excelled on Special Teams and is a role model on and off the field.

Linebacker Kevin Card (Deer Park, N.Y.) and defensive lineman Michael Kennedy (Naugatuck, Conn.) were both honored as the recipients of the Senior Award.

The AMCAT football staff also announced a new award, named the Billy Maradei Award in honor of four-year team manager Billy Maradei. The award will be presented to a member of the AMCAT program who exemplifies character, scholarship, and a compassion for helping others.

The program also recognized those who had been named to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) All-Conference team, All-Academic Team, and the Worcester-Area All-Star team.
