Second-Half Comeback Pushes Husson Past AMCATS

BANGOR, Maine – The Anna Maria College football team held a 14-7 lead at halftime but ultimately fell to the league-leading Eagles of Husson University 42-20 in Saturday's Eastern Collegiate Football Conference action.

 The Eagles improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference play while Anna Maria falls to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in league play.

Anna Maria was up 14-0 following a one-yard touchdown run by Christopher Bettano (Lawrence, Mass.) and a 28-yard touchdown completion from quarterback Daniel Faison (Bowie, Md.) to Will Ricard (Billerica, Mass.) at the 5:07 and 14:07 marks of the first and second quarters, respectively. Placekicker Kyle Simons (Swansea, Mass.) connected on both extra-point attempts.

Faison completed 10 of 28 pass attempts on the day for 180 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 13 yards. Ricard totaled 94 reception yards and two touchdown catches. Steven Azor (New Bedford, Mass.) aided the offense with 44 reception yards on two catches, while Ryan McCarthy (Deer Park, N.Y.) caught four passes for 40 yards and a long of 17.

Anna Maria's Victor Sambola (Worcester, Mass.) and Mike Sinto (Long Island, N.Y.) both recorded 15 tackles, while Carl Santos (New Bedford, Mass.) tallied two interceptions on the day.

 Joe Seccareccia (Bangor, Maine) connected with Joe Farrell (Mattapan, Mass.) for a 57-yard touchdown pass at 10:09 of the second quarter to bring the score to 14-7.

Seccareccia hooked up with Farrell for the second time on the afternoon, tying the game at 14-14 with 6:50 left in the third quarter. Farrell made a fantastic catch in the back of the end zone, narrowly getting one foot down for the 21-yard reception.

The AMCATS answered back just 16-seconds later with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Faison to Ricard, but they would miss the extra point attempt, making the score 20-14.

The Eagles could not convert on their next drive but would force Anna Maria to go three and out, getting the ball back with 3:34 left on the clock in the third quarter.

Husson moved the ball 48-yards on two plays as Smith broke through the left side of the line for a 45-yard touchdown, his longest rush of the day, to give the Eagles a 21-20 lead.

Smith finished with 189 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns and Shabashe McIntosh (Bridgeport, Conn.) rushed for 27 yards on two carries and a score. Farrell finished with three receptions for 85 yards and two scores to lead the Husson receivers.

Seccareccia finished 8-24 for 160 yards with two scores and two interceptions.

Ellis Throckmorton (Bangor, Maine) led the Eagles defense with 11 total tackles in the game. Kenny Sweet (Portland, Maine), Stevens Laguerre (Stamford, Conn.), and Marquis Jiminez (Hartford, Conn.) each had an interception in the win.

Husson had 392 yards of total offense while Anna Maria had 199.

The Eagles return to the field on November 8 for a 12:00pm game at Becker.
