Game 1 Bears 9, AMCATS 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Coast Guard jumped on the board first when they posted a three-run first inning highlighted by RBI singles from Audrey Bartz (Arlington, VA) and Katie Becker (Jacksonville, NC) to help push the Bears lead to 3-0.
  • In the top of the second, Anna Maria threatened when Kyleigh Campbell (Merrimac, MA) drew a walk and then Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA) reached on an error by the Coast Guard second basewoman while Campbell advanced to second. Despite the AMCATS having a runner in scoring position, Bears starter, Sydney Arendt (Manistee, MI) shut down the rally when she induced a pop-out to first.
  • The Bears would go on to add three more runs in the bottom of the second and bottom of the fourth to ultimately pull away from the 'CATS by a 9-0 margin. During Coast Guard's three-run second, Maggie Perez (Granada Hills, CA) sent a triple to right field and in their three-run fourth, Becker hit a two-run RBI single to left which helped secure a Bears win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Kaitlyn Snyder (Cromwell, CT) drew the start for Anna Maria and pitched four innings while striking out one.
  • For the Bears, Ardent pitched a no-hitter in five innings of work and struck out five.
  • Becker led all Coast Guard hitters with two RBIs on the day.

Game 2 Lords 10, AMCATS 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kenyon threatened right away in the first inning as the Lords loaded up the bases against Anna Maria starter, Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) with two outs. However, Liston got herself out of the jam when she generated a groundball to short and kept the game scoreless early on.
  • Anna Maria also had a chance to get on the board early in the bottom half of the first when Hailey Shaw (Salem, NH) ripped a single through the left side and then Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT) hit a single of her own to put Kaitlyn Snyder (Cromwell, CT) at second who had reached prior via fielder's choice with just one out. However, Lords pitcher, Emily Pater (Northbrook, IL) retired the next two AMCATS batters by strikeout and a foul out to first.
  • In the second inning, Kenyon struck first after Grace Finn (Escondido, CA) doubled up the middle to drive in one run and then later in the inning, she stole home to give the Lords a 2-0 lead. Kenyon again posted a two-run inning (4-0) in the top of the third that was highlighted by a solo home run from Prater. But, at the bottom of the third, Anna Maria finally got on the board themselves.
  • During the bottom half of the third, McNamee sent a double to right-center and moved Gabrielle Gibson (Anchorage, AK) to third after she pinch ran for Snyder who drew a walk the previous at-bat. Liston drove in Gibson when she hit an RBI single down the left line to cut the Lords lead down to three (4-1).
  • The Lords ended up pulling away when they utilized back to back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth that featured RBI doubles from Sara Campagna (Saint Charles, IL) in the fifth and Kassie Rimmel (Duncan, SC) in the sixth which pushed the lead to 10-1.
  • Before Kenyon had their three-run sixth, the 'CATS put runners at first and third after hits from Shaw and Snyder. McNamee reached again and advanced Shaw to third from a fielder's choice but unfortunately could not get the run across.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Liston had the lone Anna Maria RBI on the afternoon. Meanwhile, Shaw and McNamee each had two hits apiece.
  • In Liston's start for the 'CATS, she pitched six innings and struck out one Kenyon batter.
  • Rimmel paced the Lords with three hits and five other Kenyon student-athletes had two hits (Emily Buckwalter (Phoenixville, PA), Campagna, Madde Hyland (Diamond, OH)Clare McMahon (Bethel Park, PA), and Pater).
  • Pater also drew the start for Kenyon College and went 5.1 innings with four strikeouts on one run. Sophia Gottdiener (Tenafly, NJ) finished the last 0.2 innings.
