PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Softball team dropped both games this afternoon to Norwich University by scores of 14-5 and 18-10 in conference action.
Records: Norwich 8-6, 2-0 GNAC. Anna Maria 0-8, 0-2 GNAC.
Game One
Brittany Vandergroef led the offense for the Cadets with a 3-for-5 day adding two RBI's and scoring four runs. Kaylee Blanchard and Faith Poor also tallied three hits out of their five at bats, along with hitting in two runs apiece.
Kayla Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.) got two hits in game one and batted in four of the teams five runs and scored two runs herself after hitting a homerun. Victoria Falco (Marlborough, Mass.) was a perfect 4-for-4 while pitching all seven innings for the 'CATS.
Pitching
Emily Oliver got the win in game one to improve to 6-3 on the season after a seven inning performance with twelve hits allowed four earned runs and three strikeouts.
Falco was tagged with the loss after throwing all seven innings dropping her to 0-4 after allowing twenty-one hits, twelve earned, with one strikeout.
Game Two
Blanchard continued her day at the plate with another four hits in game two going 4-for-5 with four RBI's and two runs scored. Katie Reid was 1-for-3 but made her one hit count as it was a grand slam giving her four RBI's with another two runs scored. Naomi Rinaldo who was 2-for-3, also pushed across three more runs for the Cadets and scored another three times herself.
Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) also hit her first collegiate homerun this past afternoon giving her a 1-for-2 line with two ribbies and three runs scored. Magierowski added another RBI to her total for the day after getting two more hits in game two to get her to 2-for-3.
Pitching
Brittany Vandergroef got the win for game two of the doubleheader and improves to 2-0 on the season after going four and two thirds with nine hits allowed and five earned runs, while striking out seven.
Ashley Garcia will fall to 0-2 on the season after pitching two and two thirds innings giving up seven hits and seven earned runs.
Up Next
The AMCATS will be back on the field Sunday as they travel to Suffolk University for another conference double header with first pitch coming at 12:00 PM.
