Men’s Tennis Falls to JWU in GNAC Action, 8-1

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's tennis team fell to Johnson & Wales University 8-1 on Monday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at the Paxton Sports Centre.

JWU posted the victory by winning five of six singles matches and sweeping all three doubles matches. The Wildcats improve to 10-1 overall (3-0 GNAC) while the AMCATS dip to 1-9 (0-2 GNAC) on the season.

JWU's Andre Barbero and Nicholas Auffret teamed for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles slot over AMC's Dillon George and Calvin Weeks. In return, George downed Barbero 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while in the best match of the day Aufret bested Weeks in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Anna Maria's No. 2 doubles team of George Kiritsy and Tyler Crabb were defeated 8-1 by Jason Chavenson and Jake McGuire.  Chavenson was a perfect 2-0 on the day, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tim Patenaude at No. 3 singles.

The Wildcats tallied an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles for the sweep in tandem play.

Anna Maria mustered only two points at slots four through six for the 8-1 final.

Next on the docket for the AMCATS are the Suffolk College Rams, who they will face on next Monday evening. Johnson & Wales will host Mitchell College on Friday afternoon.
