SPRINGFIELD, Mass.— Anna Maria College sophomore Dillon George was a double winner at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in a 7-2 defeat at Western New England University in non-conference men's tennis action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts on Wednesday. The Golden Bears have won four straight matches to improve to 6-4 overall while the AMCATS are now 1-5.

Junior Michael Masciadrelli teamed with No. 3 doubles partner freshman Brian Grohe to give WNE a 2-0 lead before Anna Maria's George and Calvin Weeks took a hard-fought 8-5 win away from juniors PJ Nassar and Peter LeFrancois at No.1 doubles. Masciadrelli also made his singles debut in the No. 6 slot and shut out Eric Boll 6-0, 6-0 after he helped blank Boll/Tyler Crabb in doubles, 8-0.

AMC's George remains unbeaten at the top spot, earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory over WNE's Alexander Sause.

Junior Chris Spear also made his Golden Bears debut with a No. 5 singles win against Crabb, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Andrew Schnier and reigning CCC Rookie of the Week James Parla both moved up on the singles ladder to No. 3 and 4, respectively, and each came away with straight set victories while losing only three games combined.

Senior co-captain Tyler Unwin played at No. 2 singles for the first time in his collegiate career and defeated Weeks 6-2, 6-2 to give WNE a commanding 6-2 advantage.

Anna Maria returns to the courts next Wednesday when they travel to Nichols College for a non-conference contest.
