Men’s Volleyball: Falcons Clip AMCATS, 3-0

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-13) shutout of Anna Maria College on Tuesday night in the Falcons' last regular-season home match of the season. 

With the win, the Falcons' even their record out to 10-10 on the year and improve to 4-9 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Anna Maria falls to 1-17 on the year and 0-13 in league action.

Anna Maria was led by Peter Griffenkranz with eight kills and 13 digs, while Michael Gaudelli dished out 23 helpers.  Ty Discoe added seven kills.

Charamut led the Falcons with 11 kills in 31 attempts, while adding six digs, while DeSousa led the team with 13 digs to go along with four assists and one kill.

Raul Rivera Rojas (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) and Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) added 10 kills each as well for the Falcons.

Albertus won the opening set led by Rojas and Charamut with three kills apiece.  Despite five service errors for the Falcons, they were able to secure the 25-17 first-set win.  Raymond Torres (Catano, Puerto Rico) dished out 11 assists in the frame to go along with four digs.

In the second set, Anna Maria led 17-12 before the Falcons battled back to tie the contest at 17 before taking an 18-17 late in the frame.  The contest went back-and-forth until the score was eventually tied at 27 before the Falcons took a one point lead and then secured the set victory with a Charamut kill.

The Falcons controlled the third set led by Rojas, Charamut and Johnson, each with four kills, while DeSousa picked up four digs in the frame.

The Falcons won the third set by a dominating 25-13 score.

Albertus will face Anna Maria in back-to-back contests with a GNAC match in Paxton, Mass. on Thursday night. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
