Men’s Volleyball: AMCATS Swept in Tri-Match

NEWTON, Mass. (3/1/14) – The Anna Maria College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a tri-match at Lasell college on Saturday afternoon. The AMCATS fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Lasell in straight sets and in the second match of the day were downed by Regis College, 3-1.

Anna Maria dipped to 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference action, the Lasers stand at 8-4 for the year and 2-2 in GNAC play, and Regis evened their record at 7-7 overall and sport a 1-3 record in the New England Collegiate Conference.

Lasell vs. Anna Maria, 3-0

The Lasers used a balanced and efficient offensive attack to earn the three set victory over the visiting AMCATS, 25-11, 25-19 and 25-10. Senior Matt Dionne (Danville, N.H.) paced the Lasers with eight kills and four total blocks and Anthony Allen (Grafton, Mass.) added six kills. Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) chipped in five kills while Julius Rosario (Stoughton, Mass.) and Dalton Whitman (Meriden, Conn.) each tallied four kills for Lasell helping the Lasers to hit .324 for the match. Andrew Glenn (Westport, Conn.) and Matt Dugan (New Lenox, Ill.) each handed out 14 assists in the contest.

Dylan Copeland (Haverhill, Mass.) finished with five kills and a match-high seven digs to lead Anna Maria, while the visitors got four kills apiece from Peter Griffenkranz (Deer Park, N.Y.), Jonathan Gallardo (Marlborough, Mass.) and Ty Discoe (Pittsfield, Mass.). Michael Gaudelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied 10 assists for AMC while adding six digs.

Anna Maria vs. Regis, 3-1

Regis College captured a four-set victory over Anna Maria in a non-conference match-up, defeating the AMCATS by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21. The victory marked the third of the season for Regis against Anna Maria, and the second time they won in four sets.

Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) led the way for Regis with a match-high 20 kills and four service aces while adding 13 digs in the victory. Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.) finished with 14 kills, 2.5 blocks and a match-best 19 digs for the Pride while Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) tallied 41 assists in the contest and Manny Calderon (Bristol, Conn.) notched a match-high four total blocks.

Dylan Copeland paced Anna Maria for the second straight match with team-highs of eight kills and 10 digs. Ty Discoe added seven kills and two total blocks for Anna Maria and Michael Gaudelli handed out 20 assists.

Anna Maria will be back in action against GNAC opponent Mount Ida on Tuesday March 4th. Game time is slated for 7 PM.
