Four AMCATS Named to 2017 Worcester Area Steve “Merc” Morris All-Star Team

WORCESTER, Mass – The 2017 Worcester Area Football Association 27th Annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Team was announced on Wednesday with four AMCATS earning spots on the team.

Being named to the first team were senior wide receiver Trai Weaver (Waterbury, Conn) and junior offensive lineman Dan Stout (Mercerville, N.J.).

Weaver caught 51 passes on the year for AMC, amassing 911 years and 12 touchdowns which were both tops in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECFC).

Stout was named to the team after receiving second team All-Conference honors by the ECFC and being an integral part of the Anan Maria offensive line all season.

Freshman kick returner Marquis Roderique (Dorchester, Mass) and senior punter Cam Brown (Gardner, Mass) were both named to the All-Star Team second team.

Marquis returned 32 kicks for the AMCATS in 2017 for 668 yards, tops in the ECFC. What's more, Roderique also caught 24 passes as a receiver for 460 yards and a touchdown. His all-purpose yards as a returner and receiver were 1,141, third in the ECFC. The freshman was named to the ECFC All-Conference team as an honorable mention earlier this month.

Brown, who was named to the ECFC all-Conference defensive second team, punted the ball 61 times for AMC, averaging 37.1 yards per punt and a long punt of 67 yards. Both of those stats led the conference. While Cam shined in the punt game he also succeeded at other areas on the field, scoring a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown on the year.

Other major award winners include Assumption's junior wide receiver/return specialist Deonte Harris and WPI's sophomore running back Sean McAllen who were named co-Offensive Players of the Year. Assumption senior defensive back Andrew Benson and Becker sophomore linebacker Michael Bianco shared Defensive Player of the Year honors. Assumption senior kicker Cole Tracy earned his third straight Special Teams Player of the Year accolade. Assumption's Bob Chesney was named Coach of the Year.
