Lady AMCATS Nip Hawks 19-16

Paxton, Mass - Anna Maria seniors Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) and Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) combined for 10 goals en route to a 19-16 come-from-behind victory over Route 56 rival Becker College in non-conference women's lacrosse action today at AMCAT field. With the win the Lady AMCATS even their record at 1-1 while visiting Becker remains winless at 0-4.

Schebel had her second straight 7 point game with 6 goals and an assist while Hevy notched four goals on the day and added one helper. Junior Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in with 5 points (4 goals, assist), senior Mackenzie Coakley (Millbury, Mass.) added four points (3 goals, assist) and freshman Rachel Kniager (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up two goals including her first collegiate tally.

Becker got a mammoth game from sophomore Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, NY), the sophomore had ten goals on the day. Shannon Smith (Barre, VT) and Samantha Jo-Dilkes (Little Falls, N) each added a pair of goals, while the Hawks received single goals from Elizabeth Durate (Riverside, RI) and Kristen Mader (Tewksbury, Mass.).

The Hawks started the scoring off grabbing a quick 2-0 lead but the AMCATS battled back with a pair of Coakley goals and an Acosta score to take an early 3-2 lead. Becker tied the game at 3-All with an Ashley Mossey free position shot.

Anna increased the lead to 6-3 on three unanswered goals but the Hawks turned up the head and went on a 8-2 run over the last 15 minutes of the half to take a 11-8 lead into the locker room.

AMC came out fired up in the second half starting the period with a 5-1 run, and when Rachel Kniager scored an unassisted goal at the 18:06 mark the game was tied at 12.

Becker went back on top 15-13 with a hat trick of Mossey goals sandwiched around an AMC's Acosta score.

Once again the AMCATS were relentless in the offensive zone, delivering four unanswered goals culminating with a Hevy 8-meter shot with 4 minutes remaining  to take the 17-15 lead and seal the 19-16 victory.
