Men's Soccer Charges Past Becker, 6-1

LEICESTER, Mass. - Anna Maria College defeated Becker College 6-1 in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win moves the AMCATS record to 1-2, while the Hawks remain winless at 0-4.

The AMCATS got on the board in the 19th minute when John Isperduli (Paxton, Mass.) dribbled through the Hawks and scored into the bottom right corner of the net for his first collegiate goal. Anna Maria added to their lead in the in the 30th minute when Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) launched a shot into the top right corner from 15 yards out.

Becker cut the AMCAT lead in half in the 50th minute when freshman Cody Lavallee (Burriville, R.I.)scored from inside the six to cut the Hawks deficit to 2-1.

Isperduli gave the AMCATS some breathing room in the 59th minute when he blasted a shot into the both right corner from 20 yards out. Anna Maria put the game out of reach in the 73rd minute when Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) redirected a Bryan Blomgren (Auburn, Mass.) shot into the back of the net to make the score 4-1. Blomgren added a goal in the 76th and Mattioli scored in the 82nd to make the final score 6-1.

Becker goalies Karl Cameron (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Jacob Feltman (Griffin, Ga.) combined to make eight saves in the loss. Anna Maria keeper Patrick Thornberg (Wayland, Mass.) made five stops.

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday, September 9 when they visit Lesley University at 8:00 p.m. The Hawks in host Nichols College on Wednesday September 10 at 4:00 p.m.
