AMCATS Fall to MUSTANGS

Wednesday, March 28, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Behind a four goal performance from sophomore attacker Zachary Rosen (East Greenwich, RI/St. Andrew's School), the Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team captured their second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over visiting Anna Maria College Wednesday evening in Newton, Massachusetts. With the win, Mount Ida College ninth year Head Coach Andrew Fink is one victory away from eclipsing the 100th win threshold for his career.

The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 5-3 and remain undefeated in league action standing at 2-0 while the visiting AmCats fall to 4-5 for the year and 1-2 in conference competition.

The hosts scored the first 12 goals of the contest through two and a half quarters of play on scores from Rosen, two by sophomore attacker Kyle Cordaro (Worcester, MA/Hebron Academy), three goals from junior midfielder Nick Yacuzzi (Worcester, MA/St. John's-Shrewsbury) and one each from junior's Gilson Fernandes Jr. (Saugus, MA/Saugus) and Nick Maurias (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and senior Brendan Hylan (Clinton, CT/The Morgan School).

Anna Maria notched two goals midway through the third quarter on scores from junior Chris Summers (Long Valley, NJ/W. Morris Central) and senior Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, MA/King Philip) trailing 12-2.

Mount Ida added two more scores, from freshman attacker Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) and senior Ian Saunders (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls), for the 14-2 advantage with 10 minutes to go in the final quarter.

The AMCATS scored five of the final six goals recorded through the final frame with three consecutive tallies, one each from Summers and junior's David Marsh (Boston, MA/Boston Community) and Jason Baker (Billerica, MA/Shawsheen Tech), down 14-5 with six minutes remaining.

Mount Ida notched their final score of the game with 1:46 to go on Saunders second goal of the game on a feed from freshman midfielder Greg Polish (Bow, NH/Bow) up 15-5.

The visitors added the final two goals on scores from Baker and senior Blake Simpson (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) with time expiring handing the hosts the 15-7 win.

Mount Ida junior face-off specialist Will Krach (Agawam, MA/Agawam) was 7-10 in the middle circle also adding two ground balls. Junior midfielder Ryan Tirelli (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) added a team-high six ground balls while sophomore Kyle Danehy (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough) went 5-8 in face-offs with five ground balls respectively.

Mustang goaltender senior Jimmy McAllister (Smithfield, RI/LaSalle Academy) saw the bulk of the contest stoning 12 AMCATS shots while sophomore Craig Bray (New Canann, CT/Vermont Academy) saw 18 minutes of play with eight saves surrendering five scores.

Visiting netminder senior Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, MA/St. Bernard's) stopped 11 Mount Ida shots.

The AMCATS will host GNAC member Lasell College Saturday afternoon with game time slated for 3:30 p.m.
