Eagles Soar Past Men's Lacrosse

PAXTON, Mass. (03.6.12) – The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-4 decision to visiting Husson University in non-conference action at AMCAT Field on Tuesday evening. The win improves the Eagles to 2-1 overall while the AMCATS even their record at 1-1.

The AMCATS were paced by freshman Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass.) with 3 points on two goals and an assist and junior Jason Baker (Billerica, Mass.) who added two goals and picked up 6 groundballs. Goaltender Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) had nine saves in the loss.

Husson was led by Ben Landry and Wayne Stubbs who both scored hat-tricks on the night and Nick Brown who added a goal and an assist.

AMC opened the scoring with an unassisted tally by Joshua Smith at the 4:25 mark of the first period. Husson's offense clicked in the second stanza as the Eagles scored three goals in less than a minute. Ben Landry first converted with the man-advantage followed by two even strength scores by Stubbs and Brown for a 3-1 lead with 11:00 minutes remaining until the half. Anna Maria closed within one goal on Smith's second goal of the game at 8:54 to head into the locker room down 3-2.

Anna Maria evened the score at 3 apiece just 1:11 into the second half as Jason Baker chipped in an unassisted goal for his first goal of the season. However, the AMCATS couldn't hold of the potent Eagle's offense as they scored four unanswered goals to build a 7-3 lead.

Baker rounded out the games scoring with 1:22 left in regulation for the 7-4 final.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Curry College for a noontime tip-off.
