Football Stumbles on the Road Against Curry

Paxton, Mass: Anna Maria College fell this afternoon to the home team Curry College, 41-7, in non-conference action in Milton. With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-1 overall while the AMCATS fall to 0-3 on the season.

 

After a scoreless first drive from Curry, and an Anna Maria turn over, the Colonels scored in two plays as D'Aundray Burcy (Hyde Park, Mass.) rushed for three yards and then Nick Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y.) finished off the drive with a three-yard touchdown to put the AMCATS down 6-0. Nick Oliveira (East Providence, R.I.) converted the extra point to extend the lead to 7-0.

 

After an AMCAT quick drive, Curry scored on seven plays with Zach Levy (Bellingham, Mass.) getting the score on a 27-yard rush.

 

The next score came in the second quarter as Levy rush for a 19 yard touchdown and with the point-after from Oliveira, Anna Maria would find themselves down 21-0.

 

After a AMCAT turnover, Juvelier connected with Curry wideout Nick Villanueva (Hanson, Mass.) for a 75 yard touchdown pass increase the deficit to 27-0.

With one and a half minutes left in the half, Juvelier found Mike DelGais for a one-yard completion and the score.  With the extra point the halftime score was 34-0.

 

The first score of the second half came from the Colonels on a 32-yard touchdown pass to junior Nate Chartrand (Pelham, N.H.), putting the AMCAT deficit to 35.

 

The next scoring play came more than halfway through the third quarter as Juvelier connected with Dylan Vieira-Owens (Everett, Mass.) from 11 yards out and the extra point, the score fell to 41-0. 

 

Anna Maria would get on the board with a nine-play, 72-yard drive with Cohen finding sophomore Marcelino Da Veiga (Central Falls, R.I.) from 28 yards out to put the AMCATS on the board.

 

The AMCATS were led offensively by Cohen who threw for 82 yards on five completions, a touchdown, and three interceptions. Jalin Hudson (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the ground attack, amassing 77 yards on 22 attempts. Da Veiga caught two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown.

 

Tyshawn Anderson (Lynn, Mass.) led Anna Maria defensively with 10 total tackles and was followed closely by Nedron Payne (Waterbury, Conn.) with seven total tackles. Darrin Cooper (Fulton, N.Y.) racked up five tackles with two pass break-ups.

 

Anna Maria will be back on the road next weekend, Saturday the 22nd to face Western New England in non-conference play with action is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
